On the spotlight: 5 personal questions for Robin Halbeisen

Our employees are the real success factor of the company. Get to know some of our colleagues personally.

Today: Robin Halbeisen, Casting Tool Technology
His motto: Be the change you want to see in the world”

What was your favourite subject at school?
My favourite class was always history. I think we can learn a lot from history. In our fast-living and comfortable times, we quickly forget how hard - or perhaps beautiful - it used to be and how well we are actually doing today.

Which book did you read last?
That was "The Stand" by Stephen King. A 1700-page "monumental work", which tells the story of several people after a laboratory accident in the USA, in which almost the entire population died out due to a virus. In the end they all meet for a last stand, a battle between good and evil.
I am a big Stephen King fan. But none of his stories has captivated me more than this one.

Which famous person would you like to meet for dinner?
Chad Smith, drummer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Firstly, because he has an incredibly ingenious style with his funky-rock style of drumming that always inspires me for my own drum playing and secondly because he is a very funny personality. However, I think it would be more amusing to have a beer with him in a rehearsal room than to go out for dinner ;-)

How "digital" are you on the road?
I try to be on the move as little as possible digitally. But that doesn't mean I do without digital opportunities.
Digitalisation has simplified many things and offers us incredible possibilities. Thanks to electronic drumming, for example, I can practice around the clock in my flat and teach myself how to play instruments via online lessons or YouTube.
Another benefit is that I can listen to any music at anytime and anywhere in the best quality. Or I can use digital roller trainers to improve my fitness on the bike over the winter in a fun and entertaining way.
I think it's important to consider all these tools as "tools" and not to rely too heavily on them. Otherwise, it's easy to forget that what really gives us satisfaction is in the real world.

What is your favourite app?
My favourite app is definitely Spotify, because it gives me unlimited access to music at any time and it's also a great platform to discover new artists and music genres.
I also like to use Strava. Strava is a digital tool to analyse your sporting activities using data collected from your smartphone or bike computer and compare them with countless other athletes. Or to plan routes, which you can then directly call up on your bike computer.

Robin Halbeisen completed his 4-year apprenticeship* as a design engineer EFZ with us from 2013 to 2017. He particularly appreciated the very varied work in the technical office for castings, as he gained a lot of insight into the different areas of the foundry. He also considers the six-month internship with us in the foundry to be a great advantage over other apprenticeship companies. During this time, he not only got to know the different casting processes such as gravity die casting, pressure die casting and low-pressure die casting, but also the various finishing and further processing such as milling, turning and fettling.

Today, Robin Halbeisen works in the Casting Tool Technology department. He uses our customers' designs or prototypes to construct the necessary tools for series parts suitable for casting. After completing the tool design, he accompanies the entire sample process up to the series release by the customer.

*Every year, we offer several apprenticeships for technically interested junior staff in a company that is not run-of-the-mill.
