Today: Nicole Gygi, Accounting
Her motto: Always stay positive and send this out, then a lot of positive things always come back.
What has been the most fascinating experience in your life so far?Definitely the trip to America in 2009! We travelled "in the land of unlimited possibilities" as a group of three. The special thing about it was that before I had only known America from Hollywood films and now, I was there myself.
Among other things, we visited national parks. They impressed me very much! I can still remember the moment when I saw the Grand Canyon for the first time....no comparison to our mountains.... infinite width and dimensions that you can't describe if you haven't seen it. Simply breathtaking and beautiful....
Then we spent a few more days in comparatively huge cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles and Las Vegas. This trip was very unreal for me and it took me a long time to process these strong impressions. Since this four-week trip, my heart beats for the west coast of the USA.
Which film has particularly captivated you recently?
The documentary about the forced disappearance of the 3-year-old child Madeleine McCann. The British toddler disappeared from a holiday resort in Portugal in 2007. I was totally captivated by this TV report because on the one hand it is a true story and on the other hand the case has still not been solved. I am extremely fascinating about such investigations because it is real and I can really empathise with it.
What has been your highlight so far this year?
Moving into our dream flat. We moved to Dittingen in June, with a great balcony and enough space to invite many of our friends.
Are you active as a volunteer?
In addition to my job in accounting, I have been active in our works committee for four years. We regularly collect the concerns and suggestions of our staff and propose appropriate measures to the executive management. This role is very important to me and I like to get actively involved because I can personally stand up for my colleagues.
I am grateful to be part of Aluminium Laufen and that I work in a team that I can always rely on, whether professionally or privately - that is not something that can be taken for granted nowadays!
How "digital" are you on the move and do you have a favourite app?
For me, it's clearly "mobile first". I actually do everything on my mobile phone. I don't even have a computer at home. My favourite apps are WhatsApp and apps for recipes. I'm passionate about baking and trying out new recipes - my colleagues appreciate this because they get to enjoy my baking creations every now and then.
Nicole Gygi is one of Aluminium Laufen AG's long-term employees: she graduated from a commercial apprenticeship with us 27 years ago - at that time there were no PCs and internet connection in the company.
So, Nicole Gygi has experienced digital development first-hand; from the implementation of an IT infrastructure in the 1990s, to the ERP connection for continuous information, to the production facilities in 2006, 3D prototyping in 2013, the go-live of the online customer portal in 2019, and the ongoing modernisation of the pressing plant and foundry. Thanks to her many years of in-depth knowledge and extensive knowledge of the process flows, she is often and gladly involved in various projects.
