Houseboats have different origins and traditions all over the world. In Asia, they have been used for centuries as a place to live and work for fishermen and their families. In Europe, it was probably initially the inland skippers and raftsmen who lived on their boats with their families.
The development of modern houseboats as we know them today began in the 19th century. In the Netherlands and Great Britain due to a lack of space and the expansion of canal systems. In France, the Parisian art scene characterised the houseboat culture in the 1920s and 1930s. From the 20th century onwards, houseboats became established in the USA as an alternative form of housing, particularly among artists and adventurers.
Today, houseboats are a popular alternative form of housing that often represents an innovative form of independence from the urban housing market. Many houseboats are designed to enable a self-sufficient lifestyle. They often have solar panels, water treatment systems and other facilities that allow residents to live largely independently.
The demands on the quality, durability and load-bearing capacity of the individual components are correspondingly high. We ensure that the U-profiles we manufacture fulfil these requirements.
