Insight: Origin of the extrusion billets
The raw material for our profiles is cast aluminium extrusion billets. The conditions under which these are produced have a direct influence on the carbon footprint. If, for example, the electricity required for the electrolysis process is generated by coal-fired power stations, as is the case in China, for instance, the production of 1 kg of aluminium generates around 20 kg of greenhouse gas emissions*.
