On the spotlight - 5 personal questions to Christian Kenyong
We consistently pursue our goal of placing our customers' needs at the
center of everything we do. Our employees are dedicated to this mission
every day. As part of our '5 Personal Questions for...' series, we
introduce you to our colleagues.
Today: Christian Kenyong, Sales Extrusions and Cast Products
His motto: Be grateful. There is so much to appreciate—every friendly encounter and everything you have.
Christian, you have been with us for over a year now as a sales consultant for profiles and, more recently, for cast components. How do you define your role?
I like to compare my work to that of a hotel concierge who anticipates guests' needs. For us, customer service is the top priority. I anticipate our customers' wishes and needs, think proactively, follow up, and ensure that all processes run smoothly. This way, our customers are fully satisfied and feel attentively looked after, even after receiving their order.
Direct customer contact is important to me and brings me great satisfaction. With the help of my colleagues, I can find the right answers to all customer inquiries, regardless of the topic. Our strong teamwork greatly aids in fulfilling our tasks, and I have received a lot of professional and personal support from my colleagues right from the start. I quickly realized that I had chosen the right job in the right company.
Speaking of jobs: How did you earn your first money?
As a student – I studied production engineering at Bremen University of Applied Sciences – I worked as a newspaper delivery boy. I picked up the newspapers from a petrol station at 4 o'clock in the morning and delivered them in my area. I was on my bike for about 3 to 4 hours until I was finished. I wasn’t really an early riser, so it was a very ‘unique’ job for me.
If you could travel back in time, where would you go?
I would love to go back to the time of the pharaohs, to when the pyramids were being built. I’d like to see how the Egyptians managed this technically. I've read a lot about it, and there’s still no truly convincing explanation. For me, it’s a masterpiece of engineering – today, we can build skyscrapers, but there’s still no clear answer as to how the pyramids were constructed. People back then were already very advanced in mathematics and physics, and the pyramids are proof of that.
Do you do any volunteer work?
Before I joined this company, I lived and worked in Paris. There, I volunteered for a few years with an association that offers free services for migrants. I worked as an ‘amateur men’s hairdresser.’ Sometimes people would queue up because having a presentable appearance is important to many – it gives them dignity.
How did I get into it? I was fascinated by the techniques of professional hair cutting as a child. I was fortunate that my hairdresser in Paris taught me after he noticed my interest in this craft during our conversations. Now, I’m quite skilled at it and can offer my services on a volunteer basis.
How ‘digital’ are you and what is your favourite app?
My mobile phone is almost like a third hand – except when I’m working, of course. I use a lot of apps like Instagram, X, WhatsApp, and Duolingo for language learning. I spend around 20 to 30 minutes on Duolingo daily; I started in 2019. Since 2022, I’ve been learning Spanish consistently because I’m a big fan of Real Madrid football club, then Italian because I work in Switzerland, and currently Dutch, as I’m also responsible for sales in the Netherlands.
I use X a lot to receive real-time news. Of course, I verify the accuracy of information whenever possible and don’t take everything at face value. I do this by looking for independent sources to confirm the information. For me, X also serves as a 'free' news source, without censorship. People can report anonymously if they want – without fear of persecution – such as in my home country, Cameroon. They can use this platform to share news not published by state-controlled media. In my view, platform X has sparked a positive movement in Africa
