Explained in a nutshell: What is Gravity Diecasting

If you are new to the aluminium industry, there are many questions: we explain some of them briefly and concisely in our "Compactly explained" series. Today: gravity die casting

Moulds - the actual casting moulds - are made of cast iron with lamellar graphite or hot-working steel. The reusable casting moulds are poured by hand with molten aluminium. This process requires a great deal of experience and craftsmanship in order to achieve perfect quality castings.

The permanent gravity diecasting process gives us a great deal of creative freedom in terms of part geometry. It is used for dimensionally accurate cast parts weighing between 10 g and 6 kg and is ideal for small to medium-sized series. In addition, we achieve a good surface quality of the cast part with the permanent mould casting process and the cast component can be machined and/or coated, depending on the customer's requirements.

Depending on requirements, a mould can be used to cast around 10,000 castings before it has to be replaced.
