Turning profiles into music: metallophones
On our extrusion lines with pressing forces of 2,700 tonnes, 3,500
tonnes and 4,000 tonnes, we produce a wide variety of profiles in the
weight range between 250 g/m and 18 kg/m. And not just for industrial
use, but also for musical instruments, for example:. Concretely:
Metallophones
The metallophone is built like a xylophone but sounds different. The reason for this is that bars made of metal, for example aluminium, are placed on the wooden box. When these bars are played with a mallet, they sound soft, dark and resonate. This sound differs from the light-coloured glockenspiel.
incidentally, the metallophone has a centuries-old tradition in Asia, primarily in Balinese and Javanese gamelan music. At that time, the bars were not made of aluminium - as it had not yet been discovered - but of bronze, for example. The metallophone came to Europe in the 17th century. And gamelan is the name for music ensembles in Indonesia, in the traditional music of Java and Bali.
