National Future Day: Insight into our working world

Once again this year, children of company employees and a school class from Liesberg visited us on National Future Day.

The program began with a guided tour of our foundry. They learnt about our three casting techniques - gravity diecasting, high-pressure diecasting and low-pressure diecasting - and learned that the oldest casting process is casting in sand. And this is exactly what the pupils were able to try out for themselves.

The children and young people moulded and cast their own names, which they really enjoyed. Udo Schwyzer, Head of Casting Machining and vocational trainer, and our apprentice polymechanic Nisa provided them with expert guidance and instruction.

The children and young people also learned how versatile the material aluminium can be used and where our customers use the manufactured parts: for example for window profiles, façade elements, battery housings for electric cars and frames for gondola lifts. Our workpieces are also used for football goalposts and works of art, but are also installed in disinfectant dispensers and respirators. Our young visitors were quite impressed by the countless possible applications.

After lunch, the children of the company employees visited their parents' or godparents' workplace and learned even more about working at Aluminium Laufen.

Many thanks to all colleagues for the excellent organisation.
