Today: Daniel Enderlen, Mechanic tooling foundry.
His motto: Give respect and trust to your fellow human beings - that is important for our community.
Daniel, what was your dream job as a child?
I wanted to be a market driver. A colleague of my father's came to our house from time to time. He was a salesman on the one hand and a market driver at the weekly market and other markets on the other. And he had a distinctive moustache. His appearance and his stories about what he experienced every day really fascinated me as a child, I must have been six or seven years old.
If you could meet one famous person from the past: Who would it be?
Nelson Mandela. I am extremely impressed that he was able to forgive after 27 years of imprisonment, that he kept his faith and hope and that he appealed for the "politics of reconciliation" after his prison release.
How do you spend your spare time? I like hiking very much. For example, I am about to walk the entire route of the Camino de Santiago. A colleague and I have often talked about it and one day we actually set out to do it. The goal: to complete the Camino de Santiago in stages within four years. Two to four weeks at a time. We have already covered about 2,200 km in a good 85 days. We started in Feldbach (Département Haut-Rhin) and made it all the way to Spain. The first time was in 2017, the year I celebrated my 55th birthday. After that, we walked through different trails. It's an indescribable feeling when you arrive in Santiago de Compostela, and you've made it. It is also nice to see some of the people you met on the way. This year I was on the road with my brother, in Alsace from north to south. That was a great time.
Another hobby: I have been performing regularly for 45 years. This year we performed a carnival cabaret, I have been doing it for 30 years and haven't missed a single performance. We do sketches, music and dance interludes.
Are you involved in voluntary work? I served on the church council for 18 years, the maximum time possible. Since my youth, I have been active as a volunteer for various village associations.
On a scale of 1 not at all to 10 very much, how "digital" are you?I have a mobile phone but only need it occasionally, so on the scale I would say 2. The only app I use is WhatsApp. I got to know this app on the Camino de Santiago. It allowed me to send photos to my family on the road whenever there was Wi-Fi.
Daniel Enderlen is employed with us for more than 30 years, with a short interruption. At the beginning of his employment, he even worked at the old location in Laufen and witnessed the relocation of the foundry in 1993. What he appreciates about his work as a mechanic in the foundry is the wide variety and interesting tasks, he has every day. He manufactures and repairs stamping tools for our three casting processes: High-pressure diecasting, low-pressure diecasting and gravity diecasting.
