On the spotlight - 5 personal questions to Patrick Studer-Beyli

Our employees have a high level of expertise and commitment. As part of the series "5 personal questions to...", we will introduce our colleagues to you in loose order. Get to know some of them.

Today: Patrick Studer-Beyli, Informatik

His motto: Everything can be changed - Because change is the only constant in life, we have to learn every day and there are no things that last forever.

Patrick, let's take a brief look back at your childhood: What was your dream job back then?
Pilot and astronaut, because of the film "Top Gun". Or " The Right Stuff ", a film about American aerospace, from the beginning of supersonic flight to the end of the Mercury programme. I was fascinated by aviation. I collected the volumes "Fascination Flying", every week there were some new entries, finally I had about seven such collectors' folders. And I also assembled some model aircraft.

When and where did you spend your best holidays?
Two were particularly nice: the holiday in Bali in 2013 and the holiday in Canada in 2019.
I liked Canada because of the immense nature, the different climate zones, the sheer endlessness - for example, depending on the place, you have to drive 120 km to go shopping - the absence of civilisation, but pure nature. And there was no mobile phone connection for hundreds of kilometres. I can especially recommend the Icefield Parkway to everyone. This 230 km road connects Banff National Park and Jasper National Park in the state of Alberta. The road leads through spectacular scenery and, according to Wikipedia, is one of the world's most scenic roads.
The holidays in Bali were also fascinating. We visited many temples with interesting, historical background. Nature was very colourful, the weather very pleasant and the people were very friendly and sincere.

While we're about travel, if you could use a time machine, where would you go?
I would like to travel to the USA in the 50s, because of the cars, the motorbikes, rock'n'roll and the lifestyle of that time.

What is your most special, beautiful experience in your life so far?
My wedding in 2014. We got piano sheet music for the song "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin. We suggested to the organist that we play this song on the organ as we walked to the wedding altar. He was thrilled and liked having a challenge with it. The entrance was tremendous, it sounded great and was very special. And of course, the wedding in its entirety is one of the best memories of my life.

Final question: How "digital" are you and what is your favourite app?
The apps I use most are WhatsApp and Mail and I am relatively digital. I often have my mobile phone with me, "unfortunately" I have to say. Sometimes I'm glad to have no mobile reception, like on holiday in Bali, because it was quite nice not to be reachable for a longer period of time. That was a piece of regained freedom.

Patrick Studer-Beyli has been working in our it department since 2015 and is responsible for the operation, maintenance and development of the it server, client and network environment. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Patrick and his IT colleagues, we know that our systems on the factory site and in the administration are in good hands and that if a malfunction does occur, it will be fixed quickly.
