Explained in a nutshell: What is low-pressure casting?

New to the business? Then you might have a lot of questions. We answer some of them briefly and concisely here in our series "Explained in a nutshell". Today: Low-pressure casting

In the low-pressure casting process, the liquid aluminium is filled into the mould from below with slight overpressure. This results in a very homogeneous mould filling. The castings are pressure-tight up to SF6*.

With this semi-automatic low-pressure casting process, even large aluminium castings weighing up to 80 kg can be produced efficiently with high quality and precision. This process is suitable for small to medium-sized series, from a weight of 300 g and a wall thickness of 6 mm.

*SF6 = This is a gas called sulphur hexafluoride, has about five times the density of air and is the most common insulating agent. It is often used as a protective gas in lines and switchgear to prevent sparking, as it can shield electrical fields much more effectively than air.
