With many years of experience, art objects and design elements can also
be produced from aluminium using the casting process. We present some of
these exciting concepts in loose order.
Today: Filigree ceiling elements at Peek&Cloppenburg in Vienna
The Peek&Cloppenburg department shop on Kärntnertrasse in Vienna was renovated in 2007.
We produced 1’080 individual ceiling elements weighing a total of around 8’500 kilos from aluminium using the low-pressure diecasting process.
Daniel Mandic, Head of Tool Technology and responsible for the design in the foundry describes the process as follows: "First, we worked out a concept for a tool in low-pressure die casting. This tool design was then checked with a filling simulation and the result evaluated. As expected, the individual flower plates in the requested design could not be easily cast in the low-pressure casting process. We had the solution: The cross-section of the individual ribs was decisive for the complete filling of the cavity. These were enlarged step by step and each evaluated with a filling simulation. With this procedure, we were able to determine the optimal geometry of the individual flower ribs. The effort was worth it! The result was an appealing casting of a somewhat different kind."
Daniel Mandic recommends: "If you should travel to Vienna, visit the Peek&Cloppenburg department stores' in Kärntnerstrasse and pay particular attention to the ceiling elements. You don't often get to see such a filigree skylight made of cast parts in this design."
Our specialists realise highly complex cast aluminium products in various sizes and in practically all shapes. There are hardly any limits for us in terms of complexity, geometry and tolerances - for industry and for art.
