Today: Manuel Castineira
His motto: Stay healthy – Health is true wealth.
Manuel, last year you celebrated your 25th anniversary with the company. What did that mean to you?On the one hand, it made me realise once again how quickly time flies. On the other hand, I am very happy to have been part of the Alu Laufen team for so long. It's also great that we all work so well together as a team.
How did you come to work at Aluminium Laufen?I had just moved to Delémont and was looking for a job. I regularly stopped by Aluminium Laufen to ask if they had any vacancies until they offered me a position in the packaging department, initially on a temporary basis. I worked there for seven years, then moved to the die-casting department. After ten years, I moved to the mechanical processing team, where I still work today. My main task is to saw profiles to the desired length between 5 mm and 13 m.
What changes have you actively witnessed? For example, I have worked in different shift patterns depending on the department. I also witnessed the automation of the packaging line first-hand and saw how many work processes were digitised around twenty years ago. In addition, several CNC machining centres have been purchased in recent years, so that much of the work is now done mechanically using modern equipment.
What do you do in your free time?I enjoy hiking and going on trips in Switzerland. I particularly like Ticino, Vaud and Valais – they offer especially beautiful views. I also enjoy cycling in the surrounding area. As a teenager, I was active in a "Schwingklub" (""Schwingen" is a form of wrestling native to Switzerland), but gave up the sport as a young adult.
What was your dream job as a child? As a child, I wanted to be a baker and later did an apprenticeship in this profession. As a young man, I didn't find it difficult to get up early, but today I wouldn't want to do that every day.
Manuel Castineira has been working in various roles at Aluminium Laufen AG Liesberg for over 25 years. He has been working in mechanical processing for almost ten years and is responsible, among other things, for sawing fixed lengths, which he does with great precision. In mechanical processing, aluminium profiles are processed efficiently, precisely and in a customer-oriented manner directly and promptly after production. The result: shorter production times and less logistical and administrative effort for our customers.
