Today: Andreas Hofer, forklift driver
His motto: "Live and let live".
Andreas, you are celebrating your 25th anniversary with the company this year: why did you join us back then?A colleague motivated me to come here. I was initially hired as a temporary worker and because I liked it here so much, I didn't hesitate when the opportunity for a permanent position presented itself.
Since then, I have worked in various departments and have always learnt new things: first in machining, then in freight forwarding, later in die correction and for almost ten years as a dross skimmer, then again in machining in "roll bending". Today I'm an all-rounder, so to speak, I mainly work as a forklift driver, but I also help out in various sections when necessary.
Do you live in the area? For a few years now, I've been living back in Fehren in the canton of Solothurn, a small village with around 600 inhabitants. I grew up there and later returned. I like the "village life", people have known each other since childhood.
What was your dream job as a child? As a child, I wanted to be a lorry driver so that I could see the world. But then I did an apprenticeship as a moped mechanic and soon after that I joined Alu Laufen.
What do you do in your free time?I like going to concerts, occasionally to the Z7 in Pratteln. I mainly listen to hard rock and heavy metal.
Or I go on excursions. Some time ago, for example, I went to Augusta Raurica in Augst, an archaeological park with lots of interesting exhibits and well-preserved buildings from Roman times.
And every year in December I go along with a colleague - he as Father Christmas and I as Schmutzli. We started doing it privately years ago. Then the requests increased. We now visit children in the neighbourhood and also in the surrounding villages. It's priceless to see how the children's eyes light up and how happy they are when we're there.
And for 24 years I've been active in the Guggenmusik in Fehren, which was founded 25 years ago. I play the trumpet there. We play at the children's carnival in Fehren and take part in the carnival parades in Breitenbach and the surrounding area.
How "digital" are you on the go and what is your favourite app?I mainly use YouTube to listen to music and Facebook, which are my two favourite apps.
Andreas Hofer is one of our long-standing employees. He has been with us in the extrusion plant since 25 years, mainly as a forklift driver, but also works in machining when required. As an all-rounder, he knows our company inside out and has so many possible applications.
And also worth mentioning: Andreas Hofer posed as a "model" at one of our photo shoots when we presented the new bending machine for bent profiles to our customers - that was great fun 😃
